Before the administrative reorganization of 2013, Loivos da ribeira was one of the smallest parishes in the Municipality of Baião, extends over an area of about 2.61 km2 and comprises the final stretch of the Teixeira River valley, just before it flows into the river Douro, in the place of the Chapel.

In the upper part of Tresouras, there is a set of granitic peaks aligned in the northeast southwest direction, the same as the course of the Teixeira River, which flows into the Douro at the bottom of a sprawling valley, already in Loivos da Ribeira. Therefore, only the northernmost part of Tresouras borders the municipality of Mesão Frio.
